Engineers are Against Indo-Lanka Economic, Technology Agreement

The proposed Indo-Lanka economic and technology agreement being opposed by Engineers. The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) and the Sri Lanka Engineers’ Association are to jointly raise awareness among their membership at a meeting held today (20 January) at the Sri Lanka Institute of Engineers at 4.00 pm.

The SLEA added that The engineering sector could be the considered the worst affected through the Indo-Lanka Economic & Technology Cooperation Agreement (ECTA),said SLEA

The association said that the two engineering sectors – Information Technology and Shipbuilding would be initially opened for professional migration between the two countries and the other sectors too would be gradually opened up.

During a recent media conference,Malik Samarawickrema ,Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade confirmed that the ECTA would be only for the Information Technology and Shipbuilding sectors and that this agreement would be signed around June this year.
