Young girl in Vavuniya hangs herself: Murder ? or Suicide ?

A 14 year old student was found dead after hanging herself from the ceiling of her house in Omanthei yesterday (01) evening.

Both her parents were not at home when the incident had taken place. Her body was found by her younger sister as she returned home from school.

The younger sister had alerted nearby people of what had occurred. Neighbors and relatives say that the deceased had stopped going to school about 4 months earlier and had for 4 years taken on the role of her mum while she worked abroad. Relatives and neighbors also however say that the girl had no problems as such to commit suicide and speculate that it could have been a murder disguised as a suicide.

The body has been removed to the Vavuniya hospital where an autopsy is scheduled to take place today (02).
