LTTE Fund-Raiser Emil Kanthan’s Warrant Re-imposed
There was widespread allegation that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa brokered a deal with the LTTE through Emil Kanthan in 2005,during the Presidential Election. During this election, the LTTE ordered Tamil people in North and East to boycott the election, and a vast majority of the Tamils in these provinces did not turn out to vote.
In exchange , Rs 757 million of Government money had been given to LTTE under the guise of rebuilding houses for tsunami affected Northern people. but not a single house was built for them.
The arrest warrant on alleged LTTE fund-raiser, Emil Kanthan, which was recalled by the Special High Court last month, was re-imposed today.
The Attorney General objected the extension of the recall as a fair time period has been given to the Emil to surrender.
Earlier the Fort Magistrate had refused to recall the warrant after the order by the Special High Court.
Lawyers appearing on behalf of alleged LTTE fund-raiser, Emil Kanthan informed the High Court last week, that their client could not manage to surrender due to the Fort Magistrate’s refusal to recall the warrant on him.
Senior members of the government had accused Emil Kanthan of having links with former President Rajapaksa.
