International Women’s Day Today

International Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world  today. The 2016 International Women’s Day theme is “Pledge For Parity”.

International Women’s Day celebration began in 1908. The day marks a global celebration of women’s economic, social, political, and cultural achievements.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe issuing a Women’s Day message said, the society has a collective responsibility to ensure women are assured of protection, appreciation and honor in every aspect.

Premier Wickremesinghe said, the society should recognize the importance of gender empowerment and participation within the greater social context for all citizens to create and sustain an environment which encourages and empowers women to play a greater role in it.

The Prime Minister in his Women’s Day message said the new government hopes to create a setting which acknowledges gender equality and ensures protection, recognition and economic empowerment for all women.
