First computerized DNA database in Sri Lanka

Senior Scientist Dr. Ruwan Illeperuma was commemorated with a National award for introducing the first computerized DNA bank in Sri Lanka at the GENETECH institute in Borella.

This new database will help extensively with crime investigation.

The commemoration was held with the presence of President Maithripla Sirisena and Minister Kabir Hasheem and many other dignitaries.

The database contains DNA data of criminals since 2012. DNA information has helped extensively with many criminal investigations in the past and this new database holds the potential to help solve many criminal investigations.
