Following the death of Chief Prelate Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha on April 8th, 2015, 93-year old Most Venerable Galagama Sri Aththadassi Thera was appointed as the 21st Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter.
Venerable Galagama Sri Aththadassi Thera had collapsed in a bathroom at the temple yesterday and admitted to Kandy hospital immediately.
Hospital Director Dr. R. M. S. Ratnayake told that the prelate had passed away last night due to sudden heart failure.
The sacred remains of deceased Asgiri Chapter Chief Prelate Most Venerable Galagama Sri Aththadassi Thera is scheduled to be taken to the Asgiri Chapter Temple this morning .said Asgiriya Chapter Sangha Councilor.
Further he said, that the date of the cremation would be announced today.
