In a meeting held in Muthur, Minister Rishad said thus ” we don’t say one thing before the election and another thing after the election”. What we promised in Trincomalee will be fulfilled . Muslim’s Great leader ,late Ashroff has foreseen the danger facing Muslims and formed Sri Lanka Muslim Congress. If not for his wise decision then, Muslims youths would have taken up arms. Since the formation of Muslim Congress, Muslims have become a recognized force in forming governments. He was instrumental to bring Premadasa and Chandrika to power. He acted as the King maker, when Chandrika formed the 1994 government. Likewise. he was instrumental to form UPFA government.During his time Muslims got immense benefits and recognition. After his demise, party lost it’s grip. New leadership lacked foresight in leading the Muslims in the correct path. End result was that in two subsequent presidential elections, the presidential candidates supported by the SLMC lost the battle. Even at the last presidential election, during postal voting , SLMC advised their voters to vote according to their conscious. Do you need a political party with other higher bodies to advise people to vote according to their conscious? When they learned the support base has been increasing for the common candidate, they were compelled to fall in line with others at the eleventh hour and supported the common candidate.
Where as our political party is concerned, in the best interest of the people, we took bold decision at correct time and shaken all powerful Mahinda Rajapakshe, by supporting common candidate, which led Mahinda Rajapakshe home.
North East Muslims are facing numerous problems such as :
- Compensation is yet to be received by people who gave land for Oluvil Harbour Project.
- All houses built and handed over six (6) years back by the Saudi Arabia Government remains closed and not used.
- Promise made to form a separate Pradesha Sabha for Sainthamaruthu remains not fulfilled.
- Pathetic situation of war affected widows,orphans and children need immediate attention. For their maintenance and livelihood no plan in place.
- As far as Trincomale District is concerned,I have seen people leaving Muthur and Thopur areas during war. As I was also an affected person, I helped them as much as possible. Mutur people should not be fooled by others , who visit them during election time make sensational speeches, play nice songs and rob your votes. You should not be a victim for their diabolical plans. Muthur representatives met me and told that the short comings faced by the people in their areas. As there is shortage of doctors in the Mutur base Hospital, patients were compelled to go to Trincomale hospital. As there is no anesthesia Doctor , another Gynecologist working there too wants to go on transfer , they said. Anuradhapura Muslims have taken a decisive shift and decided to vote for Srilanka Makkal Congress, which resulted a Member of Parliament was returned to Parliament. Mutur Muslims too should consider a decisive move in forthcoming elections to safeguard their rights and get development work in their area, said Rishad.
