Details revealed about burnt body found by Athurugiriya Police

Police have uncovered the whole story behind the half burnt body located while being transported in Athurugiriya. The suspect named Wickrama told Assistant Superintendent of Police Krishantha Jayawardena the events that resulted in him killing the ex- military thug Prasad.

Wickrama was a resident of Poddala in Galle where his wife resided alone with their two children while he worked abroad.

His wife Nalini had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but had persuaded Wickrama to remain abroad because the family will need the income.

A military deserter named Prasad who lived in the same area who was involved in many crimes one day entered Nalini’s house raped her at gunpoint and stole her jewelry and money. He made this a habit and Nalini was helpless in front of his abuse. She then told Wickrama what was happening when she could no longer tolerate the thug’s abuse and asked him to come home.

Prasad took no caution or didn’t even seem to mind that Wickrama was there he came to their house beat Wickrama and burnt their new house to the ground.

Helpless in front of this beast armed brutality Wickrama sought the help of the Police to no avail. Prasad who had stolen Wickrama’s phone in their encounter called his niece and asked her to bring money and come quickly to Colombo saying her uncle was very sick and desperate.

When she arrived in Colombo he kidnapped her and took her to a hotel where he held her captive and raped her continuously for three days. He released her after taking the money she had brought and with the promise to bring more.

Prasad had continued to abuse Nalini calling her and threatening her. He had come to their house in Piliyandala looking for her and had come face to face with Wickrama who he had again threatened.

On impulse Wickrama had reached for a metal bar with which he hit Prasad across the back, Prasad died immediately. Panicking Wickrama tried burning the body but failing proceeded to transport the body and dump it somewhere but was caught in the process.

This story depicts a sad story of a helpless man put in a very cornered situation. The lack of support from the Police was what mainly led to the unfolding of these events and an innocent man being forced into a position where he would commit murder.
