Kumar Gunaratnam Sentenced to One-year Prison Term

Former JVP politburo member,Kumar Gunaratnam had arrived in Sri Lanka from Australia on January 01, 2015, just days before the last Presidential Election.

Kumar Gunaratnam, who reportedly holds Australian citizenship, had arrived in Srilanka on a 30-day tourist visa, which expired on January 31, 2015. He was charged for over staying Visa period and doing politics after coming on tourist visa.

Frontline Socialist Party Member  Kumar Gunaratnam, who is presently in remand custody over allegedly violating visa regulations was produced in Kegalle Magistrate court today.

Kegalle Magistrate has sentenced Politburo member of the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) Kumar Gunaratnam to one year imprisonment and  also fined Rs.50,000.
