Political Interference in Police confirmed by Outgoing IGP

Outgoing IGP, M.K.Ilankakone said that he assumed office as IGP in the year 2011 and served 4 years and 10 months, the longest period an IGP served in Srilanka. During my tenure politicians interfered in my duties throughout. But I stood firm and didn’t bow down to pressure exerted by them. As a result I have to face numerous problems while in service. One year before, the situation was worse and different from that of now. New environment is conducive for the new IGP to carry out his duty honestly and diligently.  He thanked the press for the support given to him to carry out his duties despite criticism. He said this in a press conference convened at the Police head quarters yesterday.
