The Cabinet met on Tuesday (19 ) under the Chairman ship of Maithree. In this cabinet meeting proposed implementation of 15% VAT as from 2nd May was reviewed. The Cabinet considered revising VAT rate and implement it without placing burden on the public. In the meantime Ministry of Finance said to have not received instruction to implement 15% VAT as from 2nd May 2016.
The Cabinet also discussed about proposed removal of fishing ban by European Union. The European Union officials are scheduled to arrive in Srilanka and meet at Hambantota on 21st April 2016 to take a final decision on fishing ban.
