The European Union imposed the export ban on Sri Lanka in October 2014 for violating the international fisheries law and engaging in illegal fisheries activities.
The European Union yesterday(21) officially revoked the ban on Sri Lanka’s fisheries exports.
Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Mahinda Amaraweera said Sri Lanka can resume fisheries exports from July this year.
The Minister speaking during a media briefing last evening noted with the resumption of fisheries exports additional jobs will be created in the island.
The Fisheries Minister added operation at 32 fish processing plants was halted due to ban by the European Union.
However Minister Amaraweera said with the initiative of the government more jobs will be created for the benefit of the masses.
He said the government is focused on making strides in the economy adding the benefits will be transferred to the general public.
In conclusion the Minister of Fisheries said Sri Lanka will gain a 16 billion annual income with fish exports.
