Up to $800m of IS Funds Destroyed by Air Strikes

In 2014, the US Treasury called IS “the best-funded terrorist organisation” it had encountered.

Maj Gen Peter Gersten, who is based in Baghdad, said the US had identified and repeatedly targeted stores of the group’s funds.

So-called Islamic State (IS) fund store has been destroyed in air strikes by US military. It is believed that up to $800m (£550m) in cash held there had been destroyed.

The blow to the group’s financing has contributed to a 90% defections and a drop in new arrivals.
