Lack of Safety Cost lives of 2 Students at Dehiwela Rail Track Crossing
On Monday, 25th night, two students crossing a rail track near the Barracuda Restaurant in Dehiwela was hit by a passing train and killed instantly. These two deaths occurred due to lack of precautionary steps taken to protect people at this crossing, concerned individuals have questioned.
The crossing from the car park towards the restaurant is unprotected as it can be seen by these google screen view images.
There is no gate, warning sign or any other precautionary measure.
Preliminary investigations have indicated that the two girls did not see the train approaching when they crossed the rail track. A warning system, if present, would have been able to prevent such an accident.
