Special Traffic Plan for May Day

Sri Lanka Police have said a special traffic plan will be implemented between 9:00am and 5:00pm today in and around the areas where May Day parades and rallies will be held. Accordingly, Pradeepa Mawatha in Maligawatte will be closed for traffic during that time period from the Jumma Masjid Junction to Sangaraja Roundabout.

Furthermore, Baseline Road will be closed from the Dematagoda Junction to Borella Junction and from Narahenpita Junction to High Level Road from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. Havelock Road and Dickman’s Road on High Level Road are also expected to be closed between 2:00pm-6:00pm.

Meanwhile, Saranankara Road will be closed from 1:00pm to 4:00pm today, while several other roads in the proximity of May Day rallies will also be closed for traffic according to the Sri Lanka Police. Meanwhile, parking of vehicles will not be allowed along several roads in Colombo and Nugegoda as of midnight last night.

Furthermore, buses plying along the 138, 120, 125, 154, 170 and 190 routes will be diverted along different roads in lieu of the May Day processions. Meanwhile, nearly 5,000 police officers will be deployed for duty in Colombo and Galle where the May Day rallies of the main political parties will be held.

Sri Lanka Police stated 3,100 of those officers will oversee the security of the rallies and processions, while the balance 1,900 will be on traffic duty in lieu of the May Day processions.
