Philippines Election Polls open Today
President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino is standing down as the constitution limits presidents to one six-year term.
Five candidates are running but the mayor of Davao led polls ahead of voting. Filipinos will also pick a vice-president and local officials.
More than 100,000 police officers are on duty. Fifteen people have been killed so far during the election campaign. On Saturday a mayoral candidate was murdered in the south.
There is tight security after a campaign marred by violence.
