Narahenpita Former Crimes OIC Ready For Confession

When Former Narahenpita Police Crimes OIC Sumith Perera’s  was produced before the Magistrate today, lawyers appearing for him moved for bail on the ground  that he had acted on instructions of higher police officials regarding the investigation in to the death of former Sri Lanka rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.
The lawyers said that Perera was ready to make a confession regarding Thajudeen’s murder also prepared to give a confidential statement before the Magistrate.
But  the CID objected to granting bail on the basis that the investigations have not been concluded. Around 30 police personnel have been questioned over the suppression of investigations in this murder, the CID said, adding that the suspect could influence the investigations.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris considered the submissions by the CID  and ordered the suspect to be remanded till May 26.
