Police Emergency Call Cost 3 Years Jail Sentence

In Great Britain public can call 117 during an emergency for help.  One 33 year old man gave 56 emergency calls to the British Police during the period, 1st January to 10th May 2016. In each time when police called at his resident, he asked for a lift to see his mother. Police warned him and left. But he continued to call 117 under different reasons.
According to Great Britain law, if a citizen give a nuisance call to 117 and waste the time and energy of the police, it is a punishable offence. For this offence 3 years jail sentenced could be given.
After his 56th call to 117, he was arrested and prosecuted. The reason for calling 117 was revealed by him in the court. Reason is that there was no one to take him to see her mother living in another region. As a citizen by calling 117, he can make a free ride in police vehicle to his mother’s place, he thought.  This has ultimately cost him 3 years jail sentence.
