Rosy Senanayake’s Petition Dismissed (UPDATE)

Rosy Senanayake’s petition was taken up for trail today by the Supreme Court. The Attorney General has submitted all relevant documents in connection with the counting of preferential votes today.
After examining the documents, the Chief Justice said , that the representatives of the UNP at the counting center had accepted the preferential vote counting and signed. Hence, he  dismissed the case.

Rosy Senanayake’s Rights Petition Before Court  Today
In the 2015 August 17th General election,11 contestants of the UNP were elected to Parliament. Rosy Senanayake claims she was in 12th place securing 65,320 votes,but not elected to Parliament. She petitioned the Supreme Court. The petition claims that Rosy Senanayake was confident of being elected to Parliament due to high public interest and support. The petition calls for the votes to be declared null and void and to hold a recount.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to take up the fundamental rights petition filed by Rosy Senanayake calling for a recount of votes obtained by contestants of the United National Party of the Colombo District at the 2015 General Election. The petition will be heard by a bench comprising Supreme Court judges Priyasad Depp and Sisira De Abrew.
The petition has cited the Commissioner of Elections Mahinda Deshapriya, Select Officer of the Colombo District, the 21 candidates, who contested under the UNP ticket from Colombo, General Secretary of the UNP, Kabir Hashim and the Attorney General as respondents.
