Majority of employees bring water to work in empty Alcohol bottles

Mr. Nilantha Samarasinghe the Chairman of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board stated that they will soon introduce one Litre glass bottles branded with an against alcohol logo to both State and Private institutes.

 

He explained that surveys show a large proportion of employees in both Government and Private sectors bring drinking water to work in empty glass alcohol bottles.

 

The Chairman believes that’s this is undue publicity for Liquor and a bad example for society, hence introducing the new glass bottles.

 

“This bottle will be distributed amongst state organization for free while Private organizations will be charged the very low manufacture cost” Explained Mr. Samarasinghe.

He further elaborated that a Sri Lankan company will be importing these water bottles from China in two stages, primarily 10,000 and then 100,000 bottles.

This is a joint effort by the World Health Organization, National Dangerous Drugs Control Board and the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA).

Dr. Nilantha Samarasinghe stated that we have been able to remove the ashtray from our houses and the betel leaf from the trays and with everyones support this to we can make disappear.

He mentioned National peace and Christianity Minister John Amaratunga and Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne as being a part of this program.
