Indian authorities detained Several Lankan fishermen

The Department of Fisheries states that five Sri Lankan fishermen and six of their trawlers are currently in the custody of Indian authorities.

Assistant Director of the Fisheries Department Lal de Silva stated that the fishermen were detained in Chennai. The assistant director pointed out that, in the meantime, 25 Indian fishermen and 37 trawlers are in the custody of Sri Lankan authorities.

A senior officer at the Department of Fisheries stated that discussions are currently ongoing to secure the release of the Sri Lankan fishermen.
