Yesterday, the Public Service Commission removed SLAS officers Anusha Palpita and RAA Ranawaka from their posts based on the establishment code of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service.
The Secretary of the Commission, HM Gamini Seneviratne said an officer can be removed from their post, if a case is filed against him/her over criminal acts, bribery or corruption. A case was filed against the duo over allegations of financial irregularities.
Anusha Palpita and RAA Ranawaka will face the suspension until the verdict of the case is announced.
In the meantime, Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake has lauded the decision taken by the Public Service Commission to remove SLAS officer Anusha Palpita from his post. He said the announcement has given a clear message to the country of the transparent governance carried out by the the present government.
However the Minister has stated the decision to remove him should have taken earlier, when Anusha Palpita was accused of engaged in financial fraud. The statement added the public expects the commission to remove all state officers accused of financial frauds.
