Buddhist Extremists Demonstrate in Front of Kandy Line Mosque

Buddhist extremist  demonstrated in front of Kandy Line Mosque against  a mosque building now being built on the ground that the height of this building exceeds the height of Dalada Maligawa by 28 feet in the sacred city.Buddhist extremists led by Arambepola Ratnasera Thero gathered in front of Kandy Line mosque and demanded to stop the construction work. They alleged that with the tacit support of Minister Rauf Hakeem this building contract was given to a Pilimadalawa Brass Industrialist. There is no country in the world allows another minority religious group to put up a building exceeding the height of the major religious building, they said and refused to bunch an inch.

Finally Municipal Commissioner has to come and give an undertaking that the construction work  would be stopped forthwith, Thereafter, the crowd dispersed.

In the meantime, M.H.A.Haleem Ishak, Minister of Post and Postal services called upon the Asgiriya  and Malwatta chapters to discuss this issue. Both of them advised Haleem Ishak to hold on the building work till the tension eases.
