Senate Rejects ‘Patriot Act 2.0’

Despite a recent massive breach of federal employee data in which hackers stole Social Security numbers and other personal information from four million current and former federal employees, the Senate failed Thursday to pass a cyber security measure that would have pushed companies to share network and record information with federal investigators.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Thursday that the measure would be attached to a larger defense bill that the White House had already threatened to veto. It failed by a vote of 40 to 56. (NYT)
