Monkey Steals Rs 10,000 From Jewellery Store Cash Register (Video)

A monkey has been caught on camera robbing a jewellery store. The bizarre clip – caught on CCTV cameras inside the small kiosk in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh – shows the monkey leaping onto a counter, grabbing cash and scuttling off.
The haul was said to be worth Rs 10,000, according to the shop’s owner. He reported to the police that the monkey had initially thrown a guava into his store, before launching the ‘robbery’. Staff had initially chased the monkey out, only for it to return to the store moments later. He is reported to have sat in the store for 20 minutes looking around as staff tried in vain to shoo the monkey outside.
After becoming increasingly aggressive, the monkey began opening draws around the checkout area of the store, including one containing some of the day’s takings. It can be seen on the footage grabbing the cash and fleeing the store as the shopkeeper tries in vain to stop him. Incidents of monkeys stealing objects are widely reported throughout urban areas in India. In some cities the problem has grown so bad, monkey catchers are employed to keep the animals in check.
