Extending Contract Employment of Central Bank Governor

The government has reached a consensus to extend the term of Central Bank Governor Arjun Mahendran, which was due to end at the end of June. Sources said his term will be extended by one year.

Meanwhile, several anti-corruption civil society activists have made their opposition to the government decision known to the prime minister and several other top UNP politicians. A Top UNP politician has stressed to them that the country’s economy had been managed in this level at least due to the support of the CB Governor.
