The Right to Information bill scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on the 23rd of June is of international standards.
Co-Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Gayantha Karunathileke speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing this morning said the previous government failed to table the Right to Information bill.
The Minister said the previous government was never willing to table a Right to Information Bill. He said they openly debated the bill but rejected to table it.
However he said a Canadian organisation has commended the draft bill and rated it as the 7th best RTI bill in the world.
He said several countries fought for such bills. However he said the government under the President and the Prime Minister has tabled the bill without any requests.
The Minister said the present government is fulfilling its pledges without hesitation.
