No Multi-Barrel Rockets in Salawa Camp – Sarath Fonseka

Minister, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has refuted reports that more than 20,000 expensive Deadly Thunder multi-barrel rockets had been destroyed in the explosion at Salawa Army camp in Kosgama.
According to his knowledge, the camp only had Red Arrow, shoulder-held rockets imported from China, but were not used much during the war.
He said he did not believe not even those rockets numbered 20,000, and remarked that as far as he knew such weapons used in fierce warfare would not be needed again.

Meanwhile, military spokesman Brig. Jayanath Jayaweera said the camp would be rebuilt at Salawa, but sans an ammunition dump.

Also explaining Army’s efforts to rebuild civilian facilities, he said 1,080 drinking wells had been cleaned in the past few days, while clearing the area of debris was continuing.

Also, around 1,340 schoolchildren will be given school equipment and uniforms free of charge, he added.
