Stop playing Loony-political games: Mahanayake to MPs

The Malwatte Chapter Mahanayake Thera, the Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera called on all political parties in Parliament to stop playing Loony-political games such as bringing in no confidence motions frequently.

He urged so when he met Plantation Industries Minister and Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella.

He stated that he hoped both the president and the Prime Minister (PM) would have the courage to bring all the political parties under one umbrella for the sake of the country and launch people’s friendly programmes.

He also called for the immediate enactment of the 20th Amendment and a general election after that.

Mr. Kiriella stated in response that Parliament was in disorder because of the sabotage attempts of some Opposition members.

He said that the United National Party (UNP) was not opposed to the 20th. Amendment but was against increasing the number of Parliamentarians.
