Proposed New Constitution Committee Operations Meets Today

The 21 member Operations Committee appointed to formulate a new Constitution to the country will convene at the Parliamentary Complex today.
The Committee will convene under the auspices of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Seven Deputy Chairmen of the Operations Committee, Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala, Selvam Adaikalanathan, Minister Kabir Hasheem, Sudarshani Fernandopulle, Tilak Marapana, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene and MP Nalinda Jayatissa will also participate in the meeting.
The Committee will deliberate contents of the report compiled by the Public Representations Committee on Constitutional Reforms.
The proposal to change the Parliament to a Constitutional Assembly was passed in March this year.
Accordingly at present all 225 members of Parliament are members of the Constitutional Assembly.
With the formation of the Constitutional Assembly, a 21 member Operations Committee was also appointed.
Members of the committee are tasked with formulating a new Constitution for the country.
