Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the United National Party is the only party that has been successful in taking the country forward. The Premier said the UNP plays a forward role in introducing new concepts to the nation. The UNP today officially launched its mobile application.
This is the first time a political party in Sri Lanka has introduced a mobile application in order to recruit members.
The event was held under the patronage of party Leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the UNP Party Headquarters Sirikotha. Speaking at the event UNP leader Premier Wickremesinghe said the party has accomplished the impossible.
The United National Party which is nearing its 70th anniversary will progress forward adding that it has accomplished the impossible. Premier Wickremesinghe said the UNP has been a pioneer of change.
The Leader of the UNP hailed further progress in the year 2015 when President Maithripala Sirisena was seen to victory through the collaboration as President Sirisena was elected the common candidate.
He added the unity government was established in August to take the country forward.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the UNP has moved forward with changing times as it seeks to reconnect with the global community.
The Premier also spoke of the government intentions to develop Colombo, Kandy and Southern regions while democracy will be cemented through such efforts.
The government also intends to convert the Port city to a financial hub in the Indian Ocean.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the UNP wishes to see the progress of every individual and not just several citizens, stressing that a key part of such efforts lies on the development of information technology.
The Premier also said the United National Party has pioneered technological advancement in the IT sector.
According to the Prime Minsiter the party has been an innovator in bringing numerous technological developments to the country from the introduction of computers to mobile phones.
He said the UNP granted internet access, WiFi facilities as well as TV broadcasting facilities.
Premier Wickremesinghe said it is the inception of a new age where any member can now connect with the Sirikotha Party Headquarters through a mobile device.
The Party Leader also spoke of their next attempt to experiment with social media. The Prime Minister said development will be ensured over the next 5 years.
He said the UNP is the party which will develop the country and our generation awaits to take over the reins. The Premier called on the youth to take the party forward as there is no future without the party.
