As the ‘Joint Opposition’ supporting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa threatening to form a new party to face the Local Government Elections, the SLFP is facing a possible crisis.
UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera and MP Kumara Welgama are reported to have been involved in the reconciliation talks, with the Local Government Elections also in mind.
The ‘Joint Opposition’ MPs reported to have demanded equal opportunity and representation within the SLFP.
However, the possibility of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister being appointed Prime Minister will not be taken into consideration in these talks as the Maithripala Sirisena camp is strongly opposed to such a move.
