D Day For Arjuna Mahendren Today – COPE Convenes Over Treasury Bond Issue

The controversial Treasury bond issue ha been brought to  the  attention of  the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE ).  The COPE launched an investigation on the controversial Treasury Bonds issue in February this year. The COPE recommended to obtain  a report from the Auditor General following an investigation. COPE will convene this afternoon at 2 regarding  the issuance of Central Bank Treasury Bonds.

The Auditor General’s report on the Treasury bonds will be tabled   before the COPE   today  during the meeting.

The Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran’s tenure will  expires  tomorrow.

The Committee will make a recommendation on the extension of the tenure of the Central Bank Governor following the meeting today.

Mahendran earlier said he will not seek an extension until investigations over charges leveled against him have been completed.

The government said accordingly an acting Governor will be appointed to the Central Bank in next two days.
