COPE is investigating the controversial treasury bond issue. The Prime Minister had attempted to influence Handunnetti to clear Mahendran, it was alleged.
There were reports that Handunnetti met the Premier to discuss the allegations raised against Central Bank (CB) Governor Arjuna Mahendran. However , JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said, that while Handunnetti was the chairman of the Committee On Public Enterprises (COPE), he had not met the Prime Minister for talks as a JVP member or COPE chairman.
