Fraud in Treasury Bond Transaction?
The COPE met yesterday to discuss 1251 pages report submitted by the Auditor General Gamini Vijesinge on Treasury bond transaction.
Auditor General too participated in COPE meeting yesterday. One of the members of COPE reported to have revealed to the Sinhala press that there was fraud in Treasury bond transactions. The COPE decided not to disclose recommendations of the Auditor General’s report to the press or make it public. However, COPE has not revealed whether Central Bank Governor Arjun Mahendran has committed any error or involved in fraud in connection with the Treasury bond issue.
The COPE has unanimously accepted the report of the Auditor General. Arjun Mahendran was summoned to appear before COPE on 7th July 2016.
