Champika blames former governments spending habits for treasury bonds issue

Minister of Power and Electricity Patali Champika Ranawaka in a very important speech at the Sri Lanka Foundation to commemorate World Ocean Day stated that by using the Gas deposits in the Mannar basin The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will be able to replace its Furnace oil and Diesel powered plants to gas powered plants in the near future.

The Minister stated that this will be a very important turning point in the Economic, Trade and industrial progress in Sri Lanka.

Minister Champika further elaborating on the plan to implement Gas fueled power stated that the initial stage would be to pump Gas to Kerawalapitiya in hope to power the Colombo City. He also mentioned that necessary measures will be taken to set up an authority to deal with gas exports by October while keeping the controlling power and proper legal measures.

Another noticeable point of reference in the Ministers Speech was when he lashed out at the previous government as to how they spent nearly 4 times in excess of what was necessary for any project they undertook indebting every person in this country for another generation to come by nearly 400,000 rupees. He also stated this was the reason why the government had to run the economy through the issue of trust bond even though it was huge burden to the country.
