Rishad & Musthapha to Resettle Muslims and Sinhalese in the North

A large number of people have been displaced in Sri Lanka since 1980. Apart from Tamils who lives in the North, a significant number of Muslim and Sinhala families were displaced Displaced Muslims and Sinhalese remain unsettled.
 While some of them tried to return to their homes after the war, they could not be properly resettled due to lack of resources,
The government has identified that 16,120 houses are needed for Muslim families and 5,543 houses are needed to resettle Sinhala families.
Rishad fought tooth and nail in Parliament and outside to get these people resettled in their place of birth.
A committee has been appointed to resettle over 22,000 Muslim and Sinhala families in the North and to find solutions for issues they might face, co-Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Gayantha Karunathilake said yesterday (6).
“This displacement has deprived them of a number of rights, especially their political rights, including the right to vote. They also face great difficulties in accessing government services. Thus, the Cabinet approved the appointment of a committee to resettle the over 22,000 Muslim and Sinhala families in the North.
The committee will be led by Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rishad Bathiudeen, who always  espoused  Muslims rights  and Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Faiszer Musthapha, a leading  lawyer.
