Joint Opposition goes to Supreme Court Seeking 2/3 Majority for VAT Amendment in Parliament

Joint Opposition has found the VAT amendment submitted by the Government is found to be different in methodology adopted when passing Budget. Hence, Joint Opposition has gone to Supreme Court seeking an order for 2/3 Majority for the VAT amendment in Parliament and not simple Majority.
In the meantime State Minister for Finance Lakshman Yappa said, in a press conference today that VAT amendment won’t be debated in Parliament.
Observer said that there is an attempt to put the blame on VAT to the UNP and escape from joint responsibility.
