Special Meeting on SP Economic Project

Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe reviewed the progress on the establishment of the Southern Province as an economic zone at a special meeting held at the auditorium of the Hambantota Port yesterday.

Minister of Housing and Construction Sajith Premadasa and Minister of Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake also participated in the meeting.

The PM said it was the government’s wish to complete the project expeditiously, and make the Hambantota Port and Mattala Airport viable to the country’s economy, while involving the region and creating one million job opportunities.

In his Economic Policy Statement made in Parliament in November 2015, the Premier said the Mattala Airport and the Hambantota Port will be transformed into profit making initiatives with changes and modifications.
