Petitions against FCID postponed

 

The Court of Appeals today postponed considering the petition filed against the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID), until July 07.

The petition was filed by Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero and Professor Carlo Fonseka, seeking an order to suspend the operation of the gazette notification on setting up of the FCID.

The petitioners state the establishment of the FCID contravenes the police ordinance and rule of law and that it is illegal to establish a sub-committee that comprises cabinet ministers and functions under the directive of the prime minister while there are 64 units of the police to investigate crimes and other related matters.
