Ariyasena Issued Suspended Prison Sentence
The Bribery Commission has filed a case in Colombo High Court charging Former Immigration Controller J. A .Ariyasena having acquired a plot of land worth 2.2 million rupees between the financial year 31st March 1994 and 31st March 1995.
The Commission said the plot of land could not have been purchased with the salary J.A. Ariyasena was receiving during the said period. J.A. Ariyasena could not managed to account for 2.2 million. Hence he was sentenced 2 years rigorous imprisonment suspended for 10 years and a fine of 6 lakhs.
