Several Accident Deaths Due to Not Wearing Seat Belts

Ninety per cent of the fatalities caused due to accidents involving light vehicles were a result of not wearing seat belts, a survey conducted by the Police finds.
Senior DIG in charge of Traffic Police Amarasiri Senaratne said, that instructions have been given to the traffic units of all Police stations throughout the country to initiate legal action against drivers of vehicles who are not wearing seat belts when driving light vehicles.
 Further  he said,  that they were also contemplating introducing laws to three-wheeler drivers as well on the need to wear seat belts to reduce accidents involving three-wheelers, as well as for those seated in the back seat of such vehicles.
