Issuing Diplomatic Passports Regularized

During Mahinda’s regime, diplomatic passports have been issued to politicians and their henchmen in a haphazard manner.

Wimal Weerawansa and his wife Sasie are subjected to criminal investigation followed by court cases. Concerns were expressed by public spirited social organizations and citizens. The good governance government has acted swiftly.

The Government has regularized the issue of Diplomatic passports by appointing a committee headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and comprised of other Secretaries, Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, an additional Secretary from the Presidential Secretariat nominated by the Secretary to the President.

Further, the Cabinet decided to require the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to notify by circular to relevant state agencies the names of persons to whom passports have been given.
