In the past the CID as well as FCID were investigating the serious charges against Johnston and Mahindananda.
Both of them reported to have been involved in corruption and fraud during Mahinda’s regime.
Johnston is accused for setting fire to important documents of the CWE and giving state vehicles plus fuel worth more than Rs. 100,000 a month to his friends.
A leading UNP minister, who is a comrade of Johnston reported to have requested prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to show some leniency towards Johnston.
The PM has refused to intervene, noting the law should be enforced to the letter against all those responsible for corruption.
