Plantation Companies Agreed For Daily Wage Increase and Interim Allowance
A meeting was held at the Temple trees to discuss about the wage increase of plantation workers yesterday. In this discussion , the Ceylon Employers’ Federation has agreed to pay the interim allowance of 2,500 and release arrears. Now workers are paid Rs 620 per day . In future Rs 100 will be added and a total of Rs 720 will be paid to Plantation workers.
The Government has made arrangement to release Rs 1000 Million to plantation company to facilitate this payment. Ministry of Finance has issued the certificate which is essential to pay the allowances in line with the salary increment of the estate workers.
In the meantime , the Ministry of Plantation Industries said that the amount paid for a kilogramme of raw tea leaves has been increased to Rs.72.
Secretary to the Ministry Upali Marasinghe said that the reason behind the increment was the increase in the production of tea that was previously at a low rate owing to a drought.
