Electricity Tariff Revision Twice in an year

Sri Lanka’s Public Utility Commission (PUCSL) Director General Damith Kumarasinghe said in  Colombo yesterday, that the government has decided to revise the tariff on electricity twice a year to reflect the true cost of electricity.

The revisions thus would follow the guidelines set down by the PUCSL. “The regulatory accounts are all about transparent and fairness. Therefore, under this regulatory accounting what we are trying to do is just that to make the tariff fair to the customers, fair to the utilities, and fair to the government. Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Chairman Anura Wijepala in the meantime welcomed the introduction of cost reflective tariffs.
He also explained that with coal power taking over 40-50 percent of the country’s daily energy needs, it served to reduce energy costs, making it more ‘bearable to the people’.
