Hambantota Harbour & Mattala Airport Funding : China’s no to Equity Funding But yes to Invest in Commercial Terms.

China is unwilling to meet Srilanka’s request to convert into equity Beijing funded projects of Mattala airport and Hambantota Port etc. There is no provision in China’s laws to agree for such arrangement with other countries, Chinese Ambassador in Srilanka said to have told the prime Minister, Ranil Wickremasinghe.

However, he assured assistance and their fullest cooperation to come over the current financial issues in Srilanka. Further, he recommended a list of China’s leading Companies for tie-ups with the Mattala Airport, Hambantota Port and other ventures in Srilanka.
