Ananda Samarasekara Sent a letter of Demands Rs .500 M From Former DIG Anura

Former Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) and South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) Vice Chancellor Prof. Ananda Samarasekara has sent a letter of demand from former DIG Anura Senanayake claiming Rs. 500 million as damages for allegedly giving an interview to a weekend newspaper containing defamatory remarks on the former JMO.
An article titled ‘Did Thajudeen Kill or Meet with an Accident?’ published in a Sinhala weekly dated May 29, 2016 has allegedly leveled serious and baseless accusations as to the honestly and integrity of Prof. Samarasekara. The letter of demand has been sent through counsel Niluka Sanjani Dissanayake. Dissanayake said that the accusations by the former DIG against her client are baseless and fabricated and are calculated to defame and tarnish the good name and reputation of her client. “I am instructed to state that your aforesaid accusations are baseless, unfounded, and ex facie false and false to your knowledge,” Dissanayake said.
She said she was instructed to demand to pay his client the said amount within 21 days and in the event they fail to do so, she has been instructed to institute legal action against the former DIG for the recovery of the stated Rs. 500 million.
On August 10, Senanayake arrested over his alleged role in the cover up of evidence in the former rugby player Wasim Thajudeen murder was ordered to be further remanded till 24 th August 2016 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris.
The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) is currently conducting investigations against Prof. Ananda Samarasekara for the missing bones and other parts of Thajudeen’s body.
