Northern Economic Center at Therkkawatha in Vavuniya

The question of locating the Northern Economic Center was dragging on for a long time in the past. Different locations were proposed by different people. All controversial issues were brought to the notice of the President and the Prime Minister. In order to resolve the issue, two locations were proposed.  One at Thandikulam and the other at Omanthai.
While this is the situation, a meeting was convened today (15th) at Vavuniya Kachcheri to select the location for Northern Economic Center. This meeting was presided by Vavuniya District Secretary, M.P.R.Puspakumara with the participation of Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Rural Economy, Harrison, Chief Minister’s Secretary V.Ketheswaran and representatives of farmers. After long discussion, it was decided to locate the Northern Economic Center at Therkkawatha in Vavuniya. Ministers and other top level participants visited Therkkawatha location to ascertain the suitability of it. This was unanimously agreed and decided to establish Northern Economic Center at Therkkawatha in Vavuniya today.
Further, it was decided to convene another meeting on 27th August 2016 to decide the operational aspects of Northern Economic Center, types of products to be brought to the centre and the distribution network.
