To Ensure Quality of Food For Long Distance Passengers Surprise Inspection by PHOs

Food stalls are  coming up along the long distance bus routes  targeting passengers. Food stalls owners in connivance with  drivers and conductors make arrangements to stop long distance buses near these food stalls in the dead of the night under the pretext of allowing passengers to answer natures call.  Passengers  are compelled to eat what ever provided in these food stalls.
Ministry of Health has continuously received complaints from passengers regarding the quality of food, sanitary facilities, price of the food, and the lack of cleanliness of these food stalls along with the main bus routes.
In response, the Minister of Health Rajitha Senarathne has instructed the Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala to take appropriate action to arrest this situation.
According to Health Sources, the Director General will direct the Public Health Officers to inspect such food stalls in their relevant areas once a fortnight and to send a report to the Health Ministry. Assistance from the CAA will also be sought and the offenders will be punished.
